Soccer can be tough sometimes. This 50-ish man experienced a sudden onset of sever pain i his thigh during a penelty kick. He is unable to bare weight on the affected leg due to pain. Edema and bruising occurred over the following days. He seeks an ultrasound exam 10 days after injury since he is still in pain and have trouble extending the leg.

The exam revealed a complete rupture of the distal rectus femoris muscle. Edema surrounds the retracted tendon stump and clearly separates the muscle belly from the underlying vastus intermedius.
